I was simply commenting on a misunderstanding in @talk-less post earlier.

The original source stated that China had become the 2nd largest importer of Russian dairy products, and it talk-less seems to have read this as Russia becoming the 2nd largest exporter to China. I was not supporting either of these claims, just trying to point out what appears to be a mistake in interpreting what the article said.

Both the link you shared and the original article contain similiar figures for overall Russian dairy exports to China - increasing 70% to $16M. So by anyone's count it is a small amount, way to small to warrant this amount of discussion.

However the 'China becoming 2nd largest buyer' claim appears to be constrained to particular dairy products in 2024, rather than total dairy products. Based on the final sentence in the original source posted:

"Notably, exports to Mongolia increased by 31% last year, and China has become the second-largest importer of Russian whole milk powder and whey, driven by the proactive efforts of Russian companies in the Chinese market."

in context it doesn't seem like a very outlandish claim and too insignificant for any official, even a Russian one, to make up. Now hopefully we can move on
