It is standard practice for companies to fund research that would not get done otherwise. The better indicator of legitimacy of research is the quality of journal (e.g. impact factor) the research is published in. That will tell you how rigorous the peer review process has been.

Also, remember that the traditional 'A1' milk lobby has the resources and has had years now to fund research to disprove the potential health benefits, too. That would actually be the most efficient way to head off the threat from A2. Yet they haven't been able to do so - ever wonder why that might be?
