Amazing what subsidies can do along with more choice. Don't get caught up in headlines unless you know what the underlying numbers are
In 2018 the lithium and graphite market collapsed when China stopped their subsidies. The PLS CEO said they used to ring a bell when an order came in to start the plant. China also stopped some federal subsidies at the end of 2022.
The EU stopped subsidies of PHEV's at the end of 2022 where PHEV's accounted for 13% of overall vehicle sales. Now it's 7%. The end of subsides in both China and EU caused a spike in sales in the last qtr and a corresponding drop in the next couple. But they were across the board and well known.
It will be interesting to see how savvy the US consumers were. Did they realise subsidies were about to cease and on what models?
