Honestly, new tech takes a while to implement. Look at how long they had discussed Hydrogen filed cars for? Even look at how long Tesla has taken to reach current position.
Yes we are working on iterations of current tech, but the world will need batteries today, tomorrow, next week. Plenty of profit to be made before Lithium batteries are entirely removed from the picture.
You can look at any industry and see the same kind of trends. SSDs vs HDDs in computing is one that jumps to the front of my mind.
