    Thanks Staypuff and Feral!

Found this article about Tesla getting ready to increase the Range of a single charge for the Model 3.

Model 3 battery pack energy density is expected to increasing by over 100% from 100kWh to 205kWh....is this increase in range on the back of higher energy density due to silicon infused graphite??? Something Novonix has already patented and is waiting for the Patent to be awarded.....see at bottom, I suppose here is another breakthrough we should keep an eye on.

By doubling the energy density from 100kWh to 205kWh, you not only double the Range on the single charge, you also significantly increase the lifespan of the battery. Since you multiply the Range by the number of cycles the battery lasts......

Or you can halve the number of battery cells, still maintain today's current Range on a single charge and significantly reduce the 500kg weight of the battery, thereby improving braking, handling, acceleration, wear and tear and most importantly almost halve the cost of the battery!

Here is another potential breakthrough from Novonix, we should keep an eye on. Silicon Infused Graphite!

Tesla Reportedly Updates Software For Future 205-kWh Max Battery Size

    https://insideevs.com/news/432509/video-tesla-software-max-battery-size-205kwh/

Tesla continues to use software and software updates to race ahead of the competition.

According to a recent report in , which is based on information from a video produced by owner, fan, and YouTube influencer , Tesla has increased its maximum pack size to a whopping 205 kWh in software.

Following a recent software update (2020.20.12), Nyland went through the software information table. Based on the numbers, he discovered that Tesla may have updated its cars' maximum battery size to 205 kWh.

The situation here is quite complex, especially if you don't really know anything about EV batteries and state of charge. However, Nyland is well-versed on the subject. He also did some diving and came to some conclusions that make perfect sense. Vehicle Suggest shared:

" ... the State of Charge on his Model 3 showed it to be at 5%, but it was actually at 74%.

His assumption was that the application of 10-bit packages that were previously used resulted in the values being off ...

According to him, if the car has 74% SOC, he should have at least 60-50 kWh remaining. The numbers now have been shifted by one bit forward. Tesla represented a nominal full pack with 10-bit, earlier which was now 11-bit, he explained."

Confusing perhaps? In the end, through all of his data analysis and hypothesizing, Nyland concluded that Tesla is prepping for the larger battery pack. As the company prepares to bring the Semi, Roadster, and Cybertruck to market, it's going to need larger battery packs. At this point, the Model S has a ~100-kWh pack and already exceeds 400 miles of range, so an upgrade there isn't necessary.

This also lines up with Elon Musk's tweet that he deleted..."nickel cathode with carbon-silicon anode works great"
