What's the arrangement between LG & Novonix, I see LG were/are a customer of the NVX BTS devision but I cant see any link with their Anode division.
The recent $2.5 Billion loan from the US Govt is to help fund the joint Battery venture between GM & LG Energy (ULTIUM) ...(Ultium was established in 2010).
GM & LG have recently been locking in supply chain contracts but I'm yet to find an announcement or any links for a Graphite or Synthetic Graphite supplier....Remembering the US GOV would prefer a US Based supplier & POSCO although South Korean based & producing Cathodes, Anodes, natural graphite, synthetic graphite & needle coke through themselves & their subsidies, to me they're unlikely to be chosen due to the loan requirements although without the US Govt loan I agree it's more likely LG & GM would use Posco outside this arrangement.
Posco recently announced a CAM plant in Canada but that's focused on supplying cathode material to Ultium & GM'S EV factories by mid 24 BUT... I cant find a link to any Graphite or Synthetic Graphite suppliers.
From what I was reading the Ultium Battery plant is to help support the supply of batteries for GM's Bigger Vehicles including the Blazer, Silverado, Hummer & Cadillac Lyrio.
Surely this means they will be requiring Synthetic Graphite, doesn't make sense they would use just Natural Graphite.
LG more recently (2022) secured contracts or mou's with..
Compass Minerals - Lithium
Vulcan Resources - Lithium
Liontown Resources - Lithium
Infinity Lithium - Lithium
Australian Mines - Cobalt
Queensland Pacific Metals - Nickel & Cobalt, (LG own 15% of QPM, & Posco 3.2%)
GM
Livent - Lithium
Glencore - Cobalt
Still can't find any links to a possible US supplier other than the obvious........ there happens to be the worlds best Synthetic Graphite producer right around the corner...Novonix
Maybe I'm just being optimistic, seems more probable than possible in my view.
But I would be interested in views of who could possibly be the supplier of S/G
The only other scalable company that I'm aware of in the US is Anovion in Chicago but to me are not in the same playing field as NVX.
