Here is Musk talking to the National Academy of Sciences (in the US the NAS is a pretty important body who provide objective advice to the nation on matters related to science and tech) on Nov 19th.

The conversation for NVX gets interesting at 1'00''58 mark where he begins talking about how much solar would roughly be required to power the US (TL;DWatch - it's a lot, like 150km^2). Then he discusses battery materials and at 1'05''30 discusses the make ups of batteries and mentions graphite anodes. Of course silicon will come in at some stage but in the mean time there is going to be a need for a hell of a lot of graphite. Mix that with their high energy consumption and it's just another reinforcement that NVX is in the right place at the right time if they can pull off production.
