to the contrary Meta5, it is a good sign that people want to know what is entailed by fracking. Gas companies have been forced by public opinion to reveal their methods which they never would have volunteered themselves. That can only be a good thing. Your post sounds like you think people who are not e.g. hydrogeologists have no right to any opinion.
here's few other lines from the article: (and yes, Deen is from Greenpeace) "What we've seen in the south is that the more people learn about fracking, the more they have objections," said Deen. "You only need look at what happened with the Balcombe parish council, which approved drilling before understanding the implications. Now they know what it entails, they say they're gutted to have given it the green light. The public's response is liable to be the same."
"Industry experts, including companies such as BP, have cast doubt on whether fracking on a large scale could take place in densely populated Britain, in contrast to the US, where it is widespread. Cuadrilla has so far spent £100m on a handful of sites since 2010, with no gas yet produced."
"Andrew Pendleton, head of campaigns at Friends of the Earth, said: "Despite all the hype about fracking, this poll shows government and industry have failed to convince most people to support it. People are being seduced by claims of cheaper fuel bills, but there's plenty of expert evidence to show [it] won't deliver this."
all the above quotations support what I've posted so far on the subject of gas extraction in the UK. When people really understand it they are less likely to support it IMO.
as I've said before, gas extraction might go ahead on a small scale but there is unlikely ever to be wholesale exploitation of gas shales in England's green and pleasant lands.
and to those who purposely set out to insult me by calling me a troll and so forth (water off a duck's back in any event) the louder you protest my posts the more you have to hide. You need to be realistic about DTE's chances, they are only moderate IMO and time will tell who's nearer the mark on the gas issue in the UK.
