I tend to agree with that article. At the end of the day we are in a market economy where price rules. You can tell manufacturers to favor the expensive option as in the "Buy Australian" campaign but where they see no material difference in quality, most will go with the cheaper option.
Of course you can mandate manufacturers and consumers to behave in a certain manner but then you may as well move to North Korea.
