Owing to the larger distances commonly travelled in Australia LFP battery chemistry is unlikely to be deployed here in any significant quantity in my opinion. NCM811 is the best choice of battery chemistry for Australia therefore it is in the interests of the Australian Government to not only ensure the survival of our nickel industry but also to ensure we have a good supply of NCM811 battery cathodes in our region. Vinfast have committed to building vehicles in Indonesia but according to recent media the batteries they will be supplying those particular vehicles, at least those intended for Indonesian use, will more likely be LFP rather than NCM811 owing to the shorter distances travelled there. Vinfast will likely be supplying the Australian market with vehicles in the future and it is in our interests for the Governement to ensure that happens and that they are fitted with the longer range, high performance NCM811 batteries. This increases the case for that financial partnership model previously discussed.
