EV's using nickel from Indonesia are probably worse for the environment than the internal combustion engine by the looks of it, it increases carbon emissions and I hear they dump the tailings at sea where I guess pollutants such as heavy metals find their way into the food chain which is already contaminated with mercury, that's why we can't eat too many large fish like sharks and tuna. The Indonesian industry is so dirty it reminds me of when I lived in the moonscape of Queenstown, Tasmania in the early 80's before Australia cleaned up it's mining industry when the tailings from Mt Lyell copper mine were still pumped straight into the river which flowed through town and right past the end of my street. The water was a thick grey sludge and it's banks were deep grey sand, I went back a few years ago and while there's no longer any tailings pumped into it the river still oozes some sort of orange substance out of nooks and crannies and is apparently quite acidic, it's never coming back to life. It just flows into pristine rainforest areas somewhere.
