I'm currently on a drug for an off-label illness, I was approved for 'compassionate supply' by the manufacturer of the drug after an application made by my immunologist, at no cost to me. My doctor told me that Australia is the only country he is aware of that has an agreement with drug companies to give compassionate supply free of charge to approved patients for off-label illnesses. It's definitely allowed and even if not approved for free compassionate supply, if one has the money one could pay for the drugs, however it would cost me about $45,000 per year and I am told I must take it for life, so this is indeed the 'lucky country' for me.
