The 2010 to 12 spike was entirely due to the spike in rare earth prices when China cut japan off.
ALK went from 20c to around 260 from memory, LYC went over 20 dollars before plummeting back to less then 10c before regaining to current price.
Rare earths have definitely been on a roller coaster ride over the last decade
