National cancer institute updated info page on lymphedema 2 days ago. Previously made no mention of preventing lymphedema with bioimpedance.

now says:
“Bioimpedance spectroscopy is a noninvasive technique used to measure the amount of fluid in the body. It can help determine whether a person who does not have symptoms is in the beginning stages of lymphedema. This tool is sometimes used to help prevent lymphedema in people who are at risk”

it still has not completely updated, as under prevention heading it still says that Lymphedema can’t be prevented (this is what it has always said), but atleast there has been a change and maybe in the not to distant future it will mention enrolling in a screening/prevention program.

I feel acceptance and recognition of bioimpedance and lymphedema prevention is increasing post NCCN (and other guidelines coming on board). hopefully this keeps pushing more insurance companies to provide coverage and help people access treatment.
