We could debate this for a long time and I wish I knew the right answer. I agree that the good IPOs will show you much greater returns in time and I often kick myself for not holding for longer. However, you then hold market risk while you are in the market . If you just play the IPO market for short term gains the rest of the time you are in cash and risk is low. I am still holding Genworth which is very unusual for me.
