    previous announcement.

Premier Bionics’ wholly owned subsidiary, award-winning Australian medical simulator developer, Medic Vision Pty Ltd (“Medic Vision”), today announced that it had signed a ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ with US-based virtual reality company, Forterra Systems Inc, to develop an innovative multi-player simulator to train networked individuals in the best course of medical and Incident Commanding action and procedures. The threat of serious injuries on a large scale from acts of terrorism and natural disasters has resulted in the creation of this unique partnership to develop a virtual reality simulator with which to train doctors, trauma crews as well as the public in evaluation and treatment of victims of a range of mass trauma events. Such events include: bomb explosions, natural disasters and CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and High explosive) events. The training tools will economically aid the training of at least 5 million professionals in the USA alone, according to statistics gathered by Lippy1. This includes at least 1 million firefighters, 800,000 full-time employees in local police departments and sheriff’s offices, 700,000 physicians, and 2.7 million nurses in the USA alone. The partnership was announced on the opening day of the Simtech conference in Brisbane – the largest simulator conference in Australia – at which Medic Vision is demonstrating its award-winning, Mediseus Epidural Simulator and other medical training devices. Commenting on this initiative, Medic Vision Managing Director, Mr Ross Horley, stated that “the company was applying its leading edge simulation design and development skills to create an internet-based interactive training environment to train doctors and emergency response personnel, in dealing with these catastrophic events. The partnership with Forterra will fast track the simulator development already commenced which includes world leading mass trauma response organizations such as the Hadassah Hospital in Israel ”. “Trauma injuries on a massive scale from acts of terrorism and major accidents are, unfortunately, a feature of the world in which we live and there is a critical need for effective training tools that can be deployed to all levels of emergency response services as well as the public.” Mr Horley said today. “Medic Vision’s partnership with Forterra will focus on the development of advanced screen-based simulation and Haptic (force feedback) hardware to assist doctors and emergency workers in dealing with massive injuries on a large scale,” he said. Forterra has previously developed a virtual reality military training program that was employed extensively by the US Army ahead of the conflict in Iraq. “Medic Vision’s partnership with Forterra will draw on our respective strengths to produce a virtual reality program that will give doctors and emergency crews real-time options for managing casualties including treating severed limbs, burns, and other trauma injuries both at the disaster site and within the hospital,” Mr Horley said.
