Medicare and private health combo works OK. Medicare looks after everyone to an extent. If you want more then join a health fund and pay more. If there was no medicare and just private health then either you would have nothing and suffer or spread your sickness or you would pay huge amounts to private health to cover the basics that medicare provides. My GP will bulk bill concession/pensioners. Take that away and they could rarely afford to see the doc, even for basic prescriptions such as blood pressure.
