Ah you can't blame people from the old system from being cautious. Remember we are going from an era of reefer madness to medicine for a number of medical conditions that are usually the realm of big pharmaceutical companies.
In med school they teach you the negatives and risks of cannabis and that was in the last 5 years, imagine what they taught about it 20+ years ago. Professors and doctors generally see the worst side effects of drugs too, the people coming in with psychosis from cannabis (very rare) etc
