Yep, Japan has had falling birth rates for decades. They now have a real problem with getting enough workers. But they are also stubborn about immigration which does not help.
Anyway, on topic, BBN would struggle with low birth rates.
And, to a large extent, spending on kids/grandkids is discretionary. Cheaper presents and more secondhand stuff.
The grandkids seem to have direct access to my wallet- but all good- what else is there worth spending on?
Retail will struggle for a while.
