CHS Has Presence at
World Fertilizer Conference
The overall tone of the recent International Fertilizer Industry Association conference in Vienna was very positive, with producers and traders alike seeing continued increases in demand for fertilizers to meet the world's expanding needs for food, fiber and fuel, says Tim Chrislip, director of product management and business development for CHS Crop Nutrients. "The major concerns discussed revolved around the industry's capacity to meet demand in the next few years, until additional production capacity can be brought on line.
"That tight supply will leave the United States bidding for product against other countries needing product, and prices are expected to remain high for the foreseeable future," he continues.
The demand drivers for grain will continue for the next two to three years, as well, he adds, so commodity prices are expected to remain strong. "Increasing biofuels demand will also continue to exacerbate already tight grain markets."
Fertilizer has become a very international market, says Chrislip, noting that more than 300 companies from 70-some countries were present at the conference. "International producers and traders interested in the U.S. market reacted very positively to working with CHS Crop Nutrients and they see CHS as a strong potential partner. Our CHS colleagues from Brazil were also in attendance, which reinforced the international footprint CHS is developing."
He says there are many positive things on the horizon for CHS, based on meetings held with key producers from around the world to discuss existing and potential business relationships. "Our expanding capacity to source around the world will add to our ability to consistently deliver to our customers quality product at competitive prices. These sourcing skills will enable CHS to continue to play a key role in supplying crop nutrients through our customers to U.S. growers."
