There's probably a book in this. As a failed RTO it was the perfect storm - but it came in unexpected waves. In the first instance I would have said that AP was trying to avoid bad press and possible litigation that would tie the company up at a crucial and vulnerable time. In the second instance, I would guess that a pullout option had already been aborted and it was too late to take that route - plus there was a prospect of litigation. I would call the first instance the province of AWD and the second instance a simple case of a naive Vonex shooting itself in the foot. Some close to the action might know what I am talking about. Alas, lest I be liable for libel, I can say no more. That is all just my personal opinion and guesswork.
