How many mega oil formations are still to be found around the world that may provide in excess of 100 billion plus barrels.

Obviusly difficult to answer but even the most recent mega structure BAKKEN still has not been fully evaluated since in 1995 it was only 150 million barrels, by 2000 it was over 2 BILLION and today estimates range from 200 billion to 400 Billion. Complicating Bakken Formations is of course it cannot be extracted like most oils that flow readily but will need high pressure technology and very uncoventional extraction methods.

Back to CTP of course thats why we are here again could the SIMPSON region be a possible mega zone. Again time and drilling will tell but two fascinating features that could contribute to success is the relative common sinking of the land in the vast areas of the Simpson (300 km across and characterised by rivers draining inland) AND strangely being a vast circular disc shape in this area of the PEDIRKA Basin. Has this area recently (80-150 million years ago and probably the age of oil formations) sunk down creating faulting and folding accomodating suitable stong sealed oil traps.
The obvious other question is how do we know if this is the true story. Time will tell.
