Sainsburys beat Aldi in England. I am unsure of whether Aldi can do any effective damage to the Coles (WES)/ WOW duopoly.
I doubt Australia is truly so far removed from the rest of the world that Aldi will not be destroyed and come off worst like the almost collapsed MTS. Franklins also collapsed so historically the WOW/WES duopoly remains robust.
This is for the reason that the wealth effect in Australia is bigger than the U.S. and England where there are more people at the bottom dime or penny pinching. Australians have a flatter wealth distribution and it seems to me that Australians will not substitute WOW and/or WES unless unemployment hits 10% and no one is seriously predicting that.
WOW wins followed by WES with Aldi eventually reducing footprint and store numbers retracing back to Europe IMHO but pls DYOR.
