Monopoly, its probably a fair percentage of the writers veiw that the banks are not rapt in atm machines.
atm`s break down, need specialist operators watching them online to correct their faults. they age and become troublesome,run out of money- need cash replenished, probably banks do find them a pain, when they can make easier profits over the counter,provide house and business loans etc without maintaining machines.
we noticed at cus agm that cus has a room of about 4 to 6 people working online getting atm machines back working again after being out of order. i think they mentioned at cus agm, that approx 60 to 80 machines are out of action continuously all over australia, most with only minor faults which can be corrected within a few minutes on-line.
cus also had another room with two specialist atm repairers
[i think of russian and chinese origin] working on physical repairs rather than sending the machines overseas to get repaired, thus saving freight costs.
seeing all this, i too think the banks cant be bothered with the technical aspect of all this, but put up with it.
cus being atm specialists, and the atm business being their only income source, they love the game.
They have purchased the best machines in the world [triton] and i think it was said at the agm that nab was having so much trouble with their old atm machines that they asked permission to come and look at cus set up and machines.
Cus have also had requests from overseas companies to come and have a look at their set up.
i was most impressed with the cus management and their set up, found tim wildash a top operator and a very approachable person.
