re: melbourne cup...news out the extra weight is the handicap, try to give them all an equal chance
so the ones with the least chances have the least weight
the ones with the best chances given heavier weights

it does make a difference

and it is not as though she is a 4-5 year old and last raced a month ago and given time to recover
she raced a gruelling race 2 weeks ago and she is 7 years old, end of her career
actually I think it is wrong for her to be racing,
she has done enough in her career
