Just found this news item from 2 days ago regarding WTP winning the contract for a massive extension of Melbourne Park (home of the Australian Open). What is it with WTP management that they keep winning terrific projects & don't bother to tell everybody? No wonder the share price is underperforming.
"THE Australian Open is set to stay at Melbourne Park for generations to come.
The State Government has revealed the latest stage in the multi-milion dollar redevelopment of the city's major sports precinct with the unveiling of the Eastern Plaza tennis centre.
Another drawcard to the Open for the world's best tennis stars, the Plaza will also be a state-of-art training facility for home-grown tennis heroes of the future.
Boasting eight new indoor courts, 13 outside courts, an open and airy elevated plaza, it will provide public space as well as a bridge over Olympic Boulevard to complete the pedestrian link between the MCG, Melbourne Park and AAMI Park.
"The Eastern Plaza is a vital part of the Government's multi-million dollar upgrade of the Melbourne Park sporting precinct, and its fresh, light and functional design really sets the scene for the entire redevelopment,'' said Sports Minister, Hugh Delahunty.
The Eastern Plaza is the second component of the $363 million first stage of the Melbourne Park redevelopment project.
The world-class facility will be handled by construction firm Watpac with Daryl Jackson Architecture, Winward Structures and WSP Lincolne Scott.
Major Projects Minister Denis Napthine said new features of Eastern Plaza included indoor and outdoor courts, a sporting campus and training facilities and public space for visitors and fans.
It would be a year-round venue for "weddings, parties, anything,'' he quipped.
Tennis Australia chief Steve Wood welcomed the news.
"The Melbourne Park redevelopment will provide a major boost for the tournament and the continual growth of tennis in Australia,'' Mr Wood said.
"With the new world-class training facilities we can grow our junior tennis development programs thorughout the year and also provide the best facilities for all the stars in January.''
