There's some people at PDN that might disagree with that statement. PDN got hammered last year when it was forced to meet its contracted ouput by buying U at spot prices when their production could not be ramped up in time.
Agreed the long term contract price is the better one to look at, but the two prices will have a natural equilibrium to tend towards each other. If (and I don't think it's likely) the spot price were to stay at $75 then the long term contract price would drift downwards over time. THe long-term contract is a much more forward looking gauge of the U price, where the spot price is obviously a very short term indicator of immediate demand/supply. In the very illiquid market you get for non-contracted U sales , it is somehwat irrelevant to major producers and as 2007 showed, it can jump around like a yo-yo. But it does have a place.
