    Melbourne 2007 a drier year
Melbourne can expect about half of its usual annual rainfall this year, in direct contrast to the rest of the State, which will be only slightly wetter than average. Summer should have plenty of fine, hot, sunny days and long dry spells broken only by a couple of wetter days. The fine, mostly dry conditions continue well into autumn, with temperatures still occasionally reaching into the mid 30’s in mid March, and the first significant wet spell since summer began not arriving until the latter part of the March and another wet spell in April's fourth week may bring some flooding potential to the Ports of Melbourne area. The drier than average conditions however, continue through the rest of autumn and some foggy, frosty days can be expected by mid-May. May serves rain in the third week. With the start of winter, the temperatures drop noticeably and some prolonged rainy days arrive, particularly in June when rain can be expected to some degree almost every day. Spring is also likely to be slightly drier than average and although there will be plenty of days with some level of rain activity, the amounts won’t be as high as normal. September and October are looking to be slightly cooler than usual, with the possibility of some late frosts towards the end of October. As temperatures start to rise significantly in November, rainfall amounts begin to taper off to a drier than average end to the year even though special occasions such as the Melbourne Cup, Christmas and New Years Eve may all be interrupted by showers.
