I think the offer has lapsed now, because I can not find anything about it on the commsec website. I think it has to be new unique customer, because they will need your TFN, so if you are an existing customer you are ineligible. I think its a ploy to gain market share, and it has certainly worked on me. :) 12 free trades to use, that is rather attractive.
You could have used another person's name to start a new account, but the cap gain liabilities will be in that person's name...
