The salaries are high but not really excessive. The people on the TNG team are all giving up on the opportunity to instead work for well established large companies where career paths may be more predictable and professional development opportunities are more plentiful. If they mess this up big time, which is quite possible given the game changer nature of the Mt. Peake project, their employability may take a severe hit.
