Shellies and LVB, Shellies, I fear you exaggerate slightly. Remember 3 orders of magnitude would imply > 40% carbon dioxide in the atmosphere - No life is possible at this level. However, it is true that CO2 in the atmosphere, many - say 400 million years ago, has been much higher (up to 10 times) than at present, but certainly not in the last million years. The point to note is the rate at which CO2 has increased. Study the detail in the link I provided to LVB, particularly under "Facts" and "Vital Signs" tags.
