I just spoke to Colin Naylor the CFO. he said the well is exploratory and they do not know yet if the discovery is commercial or not. Abandoned means they will not re-enter through this particular drilling hole but they may at some later date choose to re-enter the reservoir from more optimal angle or direction. My own assessment of what he said is that it is not bad news, not a duster - it adds to their knowledge of the geology of the permit area and they know there is oil/gas down there. I do not think this is going to put a rocket under the sp but it is generally a positive announcement.
