While the chip's savings in speech recognition, which only requires around one to two watts, may seem marginal, the developers expect far more from the technology. This is because image analysis for autonomous driving according to level 4 and 5 currently requires around 4 kW of power. If the demand could be reduced to 400 watts by using such AI chips, this would be an extreme gain for the range of automated electric cars.
