Coles doesn't charge you a credit card fee because if it did we'd all wonder to Woolworths (that and they have their own credit card schemes in place). The same reason retailers add BNPL services. Not because the 3-7% fees are bearable, but because they have to or lose out to competition. The more widespread it becomes, the more retailers en mass are likely to evoke regulatory change. BNPL is here for good, but it will end up being a fairly priced option with clear lines of segregation.

Of course APT adds value, but not 4% of value. That will be very obvious when retailers can segregate fees. The only users will remain less solvent shoppers. I've had an APT account forever and used it once. I simply am solvent so don't need to use it. Use EFTPOS personally much of the time, a 0.3% charge I can ethically live with.
