Pretty clear that people can't do the math on this forum.

Three things that happen to a merchant (on average) when a customer chooses Afterpay as a payment method:

    1. They pay a 4% fee.
    2. They sell 20% more product on that single transaction.
    3. The transaction is 20% less likely to be abandoned.

For anyone who understands retail margins and the numbers above will know this is a great deal for a merchant and they would want to encourage the use of this payment method. For anyone with half a brain this isn't a surprise since Afterpay is being adopted like wildfire world wide by merchants...

If merchants were to explicitly slap a fee increase on the use of Afterpay then it's very unlikely people would be using the service. So what happens to the merchant:

    1. They get their 4% margin back.
    2. They get 20% less basket sizes.
    3. Their baskets are abandoned 20% more.
    4. May lose more business to similar companies that don't pass on rate.

It doesn't make sense for a merchant to want to offer this product and then give people an incentive to not use it...

So much noise and misinformation being spread on these forums by salty people that missed out. The envy is real.

One advice I'll give you is next time take the time to do the math. And if you can't do the math at least have a think about why there are thousands of merchants that take up Afterpay every week on three different continents if the 4% fee isn't worth it to them...
