However, in response to your example of a $160 purchase suggestion that you wouldn't chase $6 saving if a surcharge applied because you couldn't be bothered going to another shop across town. Let's imagine that purchase is made online. Would i go through with the sale if I could avoid the surcharge at another vendor offering afterpay? Probably not - at least not without checking out my options. I would probably leave that store and find another merchant who offers afterpay without the surcharge abandoning my cart probably never to return. And that's why merchants (particularly online merchants) won't charge a surcharge.
