I think a merger is a no-brainer. A buy-out would cost PLS too much.

PLS have the money, AJM have the timing. And timing is increasingly being seen as very, very valuable. Then there are economies of scale for infrastructure, and the might of being one larger company in an environment where only the biggest will survive.

I suspect this has been planned for months or longer, but that AJM is waiting to see what happens with the various disputes/ROFR situation over at PLS, as well as perhaps working to selling off it's coal assets etc.
