The current situation is no doubt, the fault of the West. Prior to that however, it may be argued that the establishment of Israel in a predominantly Islamic part of the world and the discovery of vast quantities of oil in the Middle east could have foretold of never ending strife. The efforts of the West in the following decades, perhaps well intentioned, have no doubt brought us to the present situation.

However, if there never was an Israel and never was military intervention, these primitive people would still be fighting and killing each other. With the massive oil wealth they would have been able to purchase more and more sophisticated weapons with which to smite each other in the manner prescribed in their 'book of peace'. As the body count grew and the threat of the acquisition of nuclear weapons became a likelihood the people of the western nations would be demanding that their governments intervene.

So, all in all, I don't think the situation would have been much different except that it may have taken a few more years to get to this point. The error on our part has been to allow these primitive barbaric people to migrate. Yes, the death toll would have been very big but it would have been a mere drop to what it will be when Europe explodes

When the Europeans look back to their warlike roots and cast off the veneer of civilised behaviour, it will be savage.
