You know you can short crypto right...... Shorters are not the issue, poor results are and it won't be shorters pushing the price down but rather uniformed retail climbing over one another to exit. If anything the ability to short is what has keep the markets up as it seems once every few months we've been getting short squeezes providing the lift off momentum to pull stocks out of correction and into rally mode. I'd be extremely worried if a day comes when retail isn't allowed to speculate on the next market crash as it's clear they are equally as bad at picking a bottom as they are at picking a top.
