I read it as a statement of fact.
At the endpoint to the study there are three reported outcomes for patients requiring mechanical ventilation:
1) 38 were discharged alive, 282 died and 831 remained in hospital.
2) Re known knowns, as of April 4 the ratio of discharged : died = 38:282 or one patient was discharged alive for every 7.4 deaths
I make no inferences regarding the likelihood of discharge or death for the remaining 831 in hospital, nor I believe does the correction.
