I don't think she ever gave them a chance to contribute - I have experience in my immediate family with narcissistic personalities - when you combine that with huge inherited wealth you get a nice little toxic brew of over confidence in their own ability thanks to constant positive reinforcement from hangers on/paid yes men and the ability to inflict maximum emotional damage due to the leverage they have over their children's lifestyle.
