Harry - How do you know this is shorting? If so, why is it (legalised) manipulation? So is negative gearing, if you think about it, banned in 99% of countries.If one thinks a price is falling, why not make money? What to do when entire market is falling? Just sit back and take it in the rear? Please answer that.
Note that there are (at least) TWO types of buyers in equities markets...those who are long, and shorts who eventually, *BUY* to cover, be it at a profit, or a loss. Only the chronological sequence has changed.
Disclosure: I am in my Super Fund, so Margin is not permitted by a paternalistic benevolent Government protecting me from myself, and by implication, neither is shorting (since it requires borrowing).
I'm just reporting the trading, something no other member did, staying up after 3:00 am.
