Earlier in the year, a US Navy minesweeper went off course and ended up on a reef in the Phillipines. Probably about 10m of damage to the reef. But, oh boy, what an outcry from the locals when it happened.
Fast forward a couple of months and a massive storm rips into the Phillipines, undoubtedly causing a million times more damage to the reefs and marine ecosystems than a minesweeper going aground. But the US Navy was still there, providing aid and medical support to the Phillipine population.
