It's idiocy. Complete and utter money driven idiocy. It won't help mining in any way whatsoever! It won't boost it, it will simply create more profits for the companies who get to take a destructive short cut. It has nothing to do with industry - only money for Gina and such.

The government hasn't even qualified/quantified the potential damage to the reef becasue they don't want to discover a negative, nor can a tax initiative for our countries debt - they have ear plugs in and blinkers on when it comes to the environment, becasue the pay off is money. They are scum bag mercenaries, nothing greater when it all boils down. Using our country for their own personal gain (bribery - that we call synergies in business - wouldn't surprise me for it is that insane bribery is the only motivation that makes sense here). An offer too good to refuse is not in the best interests of this country. And that is all the gov will get from this - tax money somehow.
Pathetic - no mandate whatsoever. They should be thrown out for vandalising. If one ship ran aground they would be charged for wrecklessness....but when its a planned cut through the reef, it's ok. Talk about dictation. Abbott and Hunt are scum bags for not listening to the public.
