    Don't know what part of town you're in but I recommend the Miner's Den in Mitcham. For $300 you can buy some very useful books and maps and pick the brains of some very experienced people. Also get yourself a good pan and go out and find a little bit of gold the old fashion way. Trust me, once you've done that it will light a fire! Research, research, hire and then buy a detector. Good luck, there's plenty out there.
