Miniaturizing a belt feed 60mm does sound odd!! Its like ATK trying to miniaturize the 6 shot xm25 to the under-slung format, whilst enlarging to 40mm rounds with 1 shot in the barrel and 2 or more in a self loading magazine!

Maybe GD is using this contract to build something that is to heavy and large for the gun shield. but, mounted on a tripod and suddenly they have an off-the-shelf solution for fixed position defence. Yeah I know it would be the first time a defence contractor use an R&D contract to further their own R&D program!!!!!!!
