The MPM-NLWS program is to replace Venom because of its obvious (and non obvious to use) weaknesses. The Navy is stuck with Venom until the MPM program is finished. Currently this MPM program is on schedule.
The fact the initial MPM production contract may not be for the original 300 stated at the start of the MPM program, but for another 200 to replace this additional supply order of Venom systems also, is not a bad thing for whoever wins the MPM program.
The fact the Navy is buying more Venom's, whilst its replacement MPM program continues on schedule, isn't evidence the Venom is now better and the MPM program is being cancelled or something! Or that General Dynamics is going to win instead of MST!
Just look at the photo of the FireStorm MPM! That is one powerful and nice looking little unit. Why couldn't it be attached to any vehicle, police car or hidden in the boot of the pres' limo?? With the right ammo and fire control software it could deflect an RPG! I'm mean come on now, imagine walking past a cop car with a this firestorm mpm on its roof and it starts 'looking at you' and tracking you as you walk!!! Welcome to SkyNet!!!!
Okay now one thing I think sounds crap about Venom; each round has its own ip address!!!! So 1990?s. It was probably Not Crap around the time soldiers thought a walkman was Not Crap! furthermore, assuming the controller doesn?t have to type in the ip address each time he/she wants to launch a single round, having to perhaps scroll through a list and find it each time!! Or, god help us, from stacking the ammo and syncing with the fire control software, someone makes a mistake and the ip addresses are out of sequence?.. Give a 20 year old kid trained to kill a computer built in the 1990?s ? how long before they smash it to bits out of frustration!!!!!!!!
