Just saw two men on bloomberg and one of them is lying. The first was our PM Kevin Rudd and the other was Jeroen van der Veer, chief executive of Royal Dutch Shell Plc, Europe's largest oil company. Said Kevin : the oil companies, opec and non-opec should increase supplies to reduce the rampant oilprice. Said Jeroen: there is no problem with oil supplies, we have oil coming out of our ears, blame the hedgies for the oilprice.
What I believe : these oil executives whether they are attired in suits or flowing robes are beating the politicians in the game of shifting blame. Either supplies are running out or they are restricting supplies - it is in their company's interest to get the highest price for their produce. No amount of Washington congressional grilling can ever get the truth out of them. By the way, as a disclosure, I voted for Rudd, so maybe I am biased.
