I use metastock as I believe does Haspete and madmacs.

Are you getting your data from Paritch? Their helpline is pretty helpful most of the time.
My copy of metastock came with a booklet entitled 'Discovering the Power of Metastock'. I spent a weekend going through that and the accompanying DVD and it was time extremely well spent.
I seem to remember that the most useful thing I learnt to start with was the difference between a 'smart chart'and an ordinary chart. Any changes you make to a smart chart will be saved automatically - if you don't want this to happen then use 'charts'.
