Reserves: 21 million MT. Despite Brazil boasting the third-largest rare earth reserves globally, the nation did not emerge as a significant producer of rare earths in 2023, maintaining production at a modest 80 MT, comparable to the preceding year and notably lower than the 2021 total of 500 MT. However, this narrative is poised for transformation with the advent of commercial production by rare earths firm Serra Verde from its Pela Ema rare earth deposit commencing in early 2024. Pela Ema, characterized by its ionic clay composition, is poised to yield the four critical magnet rare earth elements: neodymium, praseodymium, terbium, and dysprosium. Noteworthy is Serra Verde’s claim as the sole rare earth operation beyond China capable of producing all four of these magnet rare earths.
